Motorola's newly unveiled Moto G smartphone, which is set to hit Indian stores early next year, is reportedly shipping with v4.4 KitKat OS.

Mark Randal, Motorola Senior Vice President, Supply Chain & Operations, in a chat with UK-based phone dedicated website Omio has confirmed that Moto G which is headed to the US, India, Middle East and other select Asian markets in early January 2014 will ship with the new Android v4.4 KitKat OS.

Moto G is already made available in Brazil, and some parts of Europe (UK, Germany & France). The smartphone will arrive in Latin America, Canada, select regions of Asia and the rest of the Europe in a few weeks time (around Christmas).

The Moto G models which are headed to all those markets, which are part of the first wave of launch schedule, will run on the Android v4.3 Jelly Bean. But the good news is that Motorola has promised to roll out v4.4 KitKat OS update by the end of January.

Moto G sports a 4.5-inch HD (1270x720p) LCD screen with 329 ppi (pixels per inch) and is protected by Corning Gorillas Glass 3 shield.

The India-bound Moto G is almost confirmed to ship with v4.4 KitKat. The new OS features a smarter caller ID, improved voice command search 'Google Now', more organised message grouping 'Hangout', quick access to settings, Quickoffice word document app, Bluetooth MAP (Message Access Profile) and many more.

The feature-rich Moto G packs a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB/16GB inbuilt storage with no option for microSD card slot. It also boasts of a pretty decent 5.0-megapixel main camera with LED flash and 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. In terms of connectivity, it features a Dual-SIM slot (in India), 3G network, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth v4.0, NFC and GPS.

Moto G (8GB) comes with a price-tag of $179 (around ₹11,300), whereas the 16GB variant is priced $199 (around ₹12,560). With such a low-cost price margin and a MNC brand on its head, the new Motorola phone is expected to give stiff challenge to local players in India who are relishing success in this price segment.
