Last week, Lenovo-owned Motorola confirmed that it would launch the Moto Z series phones on October 4. Now, the company's latest teaser has confirmed that the new device will be accompanied by Moto Mods.
Indian fans have long been craving for Motorola's Moto Maker customisation service, which was initially introduced along with the launch of first generation Moto X in the United States in 2013. Back then, the company offered buyers a chance to customise their own Moto X with close to 2,000 possible combinations.
Consumers were also given options to engrave a personalised message on the phone's back panel, choose colours for panels (18) including default wallpapers and many more options. In order to customise it, buyers just need to log in to the Motorola website. That niche service is still offered only in developed markets, while developing regions including India were continued to be neglected until now.
This year, Motorola is readying to bring the Moto Mods, a value-added accessory eco-system that caters to people with different needs.
For those unaware, Moto Mods are magnet-based swappable case, which attaches to the smartphone's pogo pin connectors. They come as battery packs, "SoundBoost" with JBL speaker and a kickstand, and a pico projector.
What's special about the these accessories is that the user need not switch-off the phone to connect them, they can just attach them on the back and the Moto Z's ultra-sensitive sensor and the software automatically detects them.
Last night, the company in a series of three GIF-based teasers confirmed that all the three snap-on Mods will be released next week.
The company is also expected to offer "Style Shell"—a basic case available with different colour and material options with Moto Z units as well.
