Motorola has cut the price of Moto X Gen 2 in India amid speculations that its successor, Moto X 3rd Generation, could see the light of day in September this year.
Many may take the Moto X Gen 2 price cut as a hint for the arrival of its successor for the simple reason that most mobile phone-makers resort to such a move before the launch of a new device in an attempt to clear the existing stock. The release date of the Moto X 3rd Gen is expected to fall in September though not confirmed as of now.
The Moto X 2nd Gen has received a price cut of ₹8,000 for the 16GB model and it is exclusively available on popular Indian online retailer Flipkart. It is now available for ₹21,999 instead of the original price of ₹31,999 and the offer will be valid only till the stocks last.
It is not the first time that Motorola has dropped the price of its flagship smartphone in India. It first slashed the price of Moto X 2nd Gen 16GB model from ₹31,999 to ₹29,999 in September before slashing it further to ₹26,999 in April.
It may be mentioned that Moto X 2nd Gen sports a 5.2-inch AMOLED display of FHD (1,920x1,080 pixels) screen resolution with 423ppi pixel density, powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor clocking at 2.5GHz, and runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat, upgradable to 5.0 Lollipop. It also has features like 16/32 GB internal memory, 2GB RAM, 13mp main camera and 2mp front snapper, and a 2,300mAh battery.
On the other hand, the Moto X 3rd Gen is expected to sport a 5.2-inch AMOLED display with 2K resolution (2,560x1,440 pixels), powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 SoC, and run on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, according to a report by STJSGadgets. It went on to claim that the device would come packed with 4GB RAM and 32GB or 64GB inbuilt memory, a 16mp main camera, a 5mp front snapper and a 3,280mAh battery.
