Motorola is gearing up for an important launch in India, where demand for affordable smartphones is at its peak. The Lenovo-owned company will release two of its new devices, which will belong to its popular Moto G series, on May 17. The Moto G4 has been spotted online more than once and the latest leak reveals further details about the upcoming budget smartphone via a benchmark listing.
Motorola will launch not one but two handsets on Tuesday. The Moto G4 Plus will be the premium edition of the Moto G4 with slightly upgraded specs to justify the difference in price. As for the Moto G4, the latest leak comes from a reliable benchmarking site Geekbench, which outlines the hardware configuration ahead of its official debut.
As per the listing, Moto G4 will be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor paired with 3GB RAM. With this configuration, the handset appears to have scored 3076 on multi-core test and 719 on single-core test, which appears to be greater than Coolpad Note 3 and at par with the latest Meizu M3 Note, according to our testing. The handset is said to run on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow out-of-the-box.
The latest benchmark listing contradicts earlier reports, which speculated that the Moto G4 would come with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, whereas the Moto G4 Plus would feature 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. Another key differentiator between the two variants is their camera as a 13MP snapper will embrace the Moto G4 and a 16MP shooter will be included in the G4 Plus variant.
In a recent leak on eBay, Moto G4's front panel was spotted with some insightful details. The panel featured a cutout for a fingerprint scanner within a physical home button. Lenovo had confirmed that all Motorola phones coming this year will have biometric sensor and the G4 series will be one of them.
Meanwhile, Motorola has been teasing the upcoming smartphones with mysterious contests, which are hinting at better battery and camera. The event is scheduled to take place in New Delhi, when we will know for sure what the new devices hold and how they would compete against budget devices such as Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Meizu M3 Note, LeEco Le 1s Eco and others.
