Motorola is one of the first few OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) to roll out Android 7.0 Nougat update. It was prompt in seeding Android Marshmallow too. However, owners of the Moto G4 and Moto Z Play will be disappointed that their handsets haven't received the new firmware.
The Lenovo-owned company had earlier assured in a blog post that it would make Android 7.0 Nougat update available to devices from the Moto G4 and Moto Z series in the fourth quarter of this year before seeding to handsets from other series. The company has released the OS to the Moto G4 Plus, Moto Z, Moto Z Force, Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Droid Force, but the Moto G4 and Moto Z Play were left out.

Now, the question is when Motorola will seed the new firmware to its Moto G4 and Moto Z Play. Ideally, it should happen before the end of this month, that is, in the next 11 days as promised by the company. It will be disappointing if the launch of the firmware is delayed.
The good news is that the Moto Z Play (with model number XT1635-02) has been spotted running Android 7.0 Nougat operating system and certified by WiFi Alliance (WFA). So, the public roll out of the device may happen soon.
However, other devices like Motorola handsets like the Moto G Play (4th Gen), Moto X Pure Edition (3rd Gen), Moto X Style, Moto X Play, Moto X Force, Droid Turbo 2 and Droid Maxx 2 are expected to receive Android 7.0 Nougat update only next year.
Surprisingly, Motorola has left out its popular devices like the Moto X (2nd Gen), Moto X (3rd Gen), Moto G3, Moto E3 and Moto E3 Power in the list of eligible handsets to receive firmware. So, it is not sure if these devices will get the OS.
