Following the launch of Moto E 2nd Generation (3G and 4G edition), Motorola slashed the price of Moto E 1st Generation in India from ₹5,999 to ₹4,999. The Moto E 1st Generation had been launched last year at a price of ₹6,999 and fetched a major success for Motorola in India.
Later Motorola launched its successor Moto E 2nd Gen with improved usability, superior build quality and powerful hardware. Alongside the latest generation Moto E is also the only smartphone at its price, running on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop out-of-the-box.

Motorola launched the 3G edition first for the Indian customers at ₹6,999 and a few weeks later they also launched the 4G edition at ₹7,999.
At ₹4,999 the Moto E 1st Generation offers a 4.3-inch display with a resolution count of 960x540 pixels. For added protection, Motorola featured a Corning Gorilla glass overlaid on the display. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 SoC, the Moto E 1st Gen is backed with 1GB RAM and 4GB internal memory with expandable support.

Runs on the earlier edition of Android, 4.4.4 Kitkat out of the box, the Moto E 1st Gen can be upgraded to the latest Android 5.0.2 Lollipop operating system. The smartphone also features dual SIM slots and comes powered with a 1,980mAh battery.

At the price of ₹4,999, the Moto E 1st Generation will compete with Micromax Canvas Spark, Xiaomi Redmi 2, Lenovo A6000 and Infocus M2. But except Canvas Spark and Infocus M2, no other popular smartphone comes with a sub-₹5000 price tag that is considered as an important price range for a budget-conscious markets like India.
