Motorola will soon add another smartwatch to its successful wearable line-up as it is testing the Moto 360 successor codenamed "Smelt." While the reason behind its codename is unknown, the original smartwatch was internally called "Minnow." Instead of delving into the name, we bring you some interesting upgrades ready to embrace the second-gen Moto 360.
The details are not official yet but it comes from a reliable source, Phandroid reports.
According to the publication, the new Moto 360 version is being tested in Mundelein, a city close to Motorola's Chicago HQ. A popular app developer tipped that the new smartwatch is reportedly running Android 5.1 OS and is expected to pack higher resolution at 360 x 360 pixels. Also, the processor was found to be armeabi-v7a, which Phone Arena decoded as ARM v7 CPU.
The puzzling codename points towards a full-metal smartwatch, going by molten metal assertion, the report added. By dictionary, Smelt is referred to a small silvery fish that lives in both fresh and marine water. Does it mean the new smartwatch will have better resistance to water? There is no definite answer to that as of now.
The new tip follows a recent leak from Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing, which showed the next-gen Moto 360 smartwatch with radical changes. Although, the photo was quickly brought down, MyDrivers.com snapped screenshots to show how the next Motorola smartwatch would look like.
Even though multiple changes were spotted, the "flat-tire" black bar remained unchanged in the new smartwatch. The images suggested extreme customization for the next-gen Moto 360 as multiple straps, interchangeable front panels and different sized bands were spotted.
These frequent leaks about the second-gen Moto 360 means the smartwatch launch is nearing. The original smartwatch was launched in March 2014 and released in the market in September. It is a long time since then, so we might expect the new successor to take the reins anytime soon.
