Following the success of its first generation low-cost Firefox smartphones, Mozilla is now set to launch a few more devices by the end of this month.
After the first Firefox OS device hit the Indian shores, Mozilla announced an extended partnership with Indian mobile brands and app developers, to launch new smartphones and content services.
With a new low-cost phone by Zen Mobile about to launch, a few key app makers like eBay, ESPN, VuClip and Zomato will also partner the Firefox developer to strengthen its ecosystem further.
"The flexibility and open foundations of Firefox OS give operators more choice and empower OEMs to deliver smartphones at more affordable prices," Mr. Neil Mawtson, Executive Director of Strategy Analytics, said through a press release.
"As Firefox OS continues its expansion into key growth markets such as Asia, Central and Latin America, it has emerged out of the 'other' category as one of the top platforms for the global smartphone industry," he added.
Meanwhile, the three current Firefox devices - Alcatel One Touch Fire C, Intex Cloud FX and Spice Fire One FX1 - are available online on Flipkart and Snapdeal.
"The expansion of the Firefox OS into a brand new category of smartphones, along with the continued growth of new form factors holds great promise for the adoption of open Web technology and for enabling millions more people to access the Web," stated Mr. Li Gong, President of Mozilla.
