Mother's day, celebrated to honour the sacrifices of mothers all over the world, is just round the corner. The day is observed on the second Sunday of May in many parts of the world and it falls on May 8 this year.

Here are five celebrity mothers from the South Indian entertainment industry, who have made a mark as actors as well as mothers.

Meena

Actress Meena, who is a familiar face for all the South Indian movie-lovers, has been in the industry since her childhood. The "Drishyam" actress got married to a Bengaluru-based software engineer Vidyasagar in 2009 and the couple was blessed with a daughter in 2011. The 5-year-old adorable kid even made her acting debut with Ilayathalapathy Vijay in his latest family action entertainer "Theri." The celebrity kid had garnered tremendous response from the audience for her performance in it.

Jyothika

Jyothika began her acting career in 1998, but the 2000 movie "Kushi" became a turning point in her career, following whch she became one of the most popular actresses in Kollywood. After pairing up with actor Suriya in almost 7 movies, the duo got married in 2006. The couple have two kids, 9-year-old daughter Diya and 6-year-old son Dev.

Shalini

Shalini became a familiar face for the Malayali audience when she was just three years old after making her debut in the 1983 movie "Ente Mamattikkuttiyammakku," for which she won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist. When she was at the peak of her career, she got married to her "Amarkalam" co-star Ajith in a grand ceremony in Chennai in 2000. Soon, she quit acting and is now mother of 8-year-old Anoushka and 1-year-old Aadvik (Kutty Thala).

Poornima Indrajith

Poornima has only acted in few Malayalam movies. The "Randaam Bhavam" actress got married to actor Indrajith Sukumaran in 2002. The couple is blessed with two daughters - Prarthana and Nakshatra. The actress is now one of the established fashion designers in Mollywood and is the owner of the boutique Paanaah in Kochi.

Samyuktha Varma

Samyuktha, who made her acting debut in "Veendum Chila Veettukaryangal" in 1999, quit the profession after getting married to Biju Menon in 2002. The couple is blessed with 10-year-old Dhaksh Dharmik.
