The developers have been asking us "Who's Next?" at the end of every teaser for the upcoming Mortal Kombat X, we ourselves have related the question to the characters that will get the nod for the new game's character roster. And this will continue until the day the game hits the final release.
The new Mortal Kombat takes place in the future, more than 25 years from the events of the last released Mortal Kombat X. As it seems, Shao Kahn has been overthrown as the Emperor of the mystical Outworld realm and now Shinok is attacking Earth with his army of Netherrealm forces.
Apparently, his army includes the resurrected Earthrealm warriors who were killed during Kahn's invasion (the last game) and are now under Quan Chi's control. Mortal Kombat X is set to be released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on 14 April, 2015.
Here's a full list of all the playable characters (new and old) in Mortal Kombat X:
D'Vorah
D'Vorah is a member of an insect-like race called the Kytinn, from the island realm of Arnyek, which was merged with Outworld. She serves as outworld's new emperor Kotal Kahn. Her insect affinity gives her control over several different types of large bugs and winged insects. D'Vorah can use the bugs for a variety of purposes, from offensive attacks to even sealing wounds.
Erron Black
Erron Black is a mercenary gunslinger in the service of Kotal Kahn who was respondent with the Black Dragon, until Kano's betrayal. Black emulates the appearance of the cowboys of the old west and has been depicted wearing black clothes under a brown leather vest, gauntlets and boots, with a poncho around his shoulders and a mask covering the lower half of his face. He is a master of firearms and one of Kotal Kahn's most deadly warriors as declared by the Emperor himself.
Cassie Cage
Cassie is the daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, and leader of an elite Special Forces unit. Cassie has received Special Forces training from her mother, while gaining her father's super human abilities. Cassie's blonde hair and attractive face and figure is very similar to her mother's, and her sunglasses and cocky attitude reminds of her father. Raiden serves as her mentor in MK X's story.
Ferra/Tor
This is basically a pairing consisting of an armoured dwarf-woman and a giant masked brute, who were found wandering the Tarkatan wastelands before being made to serve as new Outworld emperor Kotal Kahn's personal bodyguards. Though they are two different characters, they will be treated as a single character in combat, since they work together in combat. Easter Egg: Ferra and Torr made their first physical appearance in chapter eight (of the MK X comics), having secretly followed Kotal Kahn to the Golden Desert to confront Mileena's rebellion.
Kung Jin
Kung Jin is Kung Lao's younger cousin, an archer and member of Cassie Cage's Special Forces unit. Kung Jin has been confirmed to appear in Mortal Kombat X and the game's story mode. Not much information about his story is known besides that he is from the Shaolin and is a part of a small team consisting of Cassie Cage, Takeda Takahashi, and Jacqui Briggs.
Jacqui Briggs
Jacqui is Jax's daughter and a member of Cassie Cage's Special Forces unit. At some point in her life, Jacqui became a professional kick boxer and eventually competed in the junior olympics before enlisting in a training camp. While she does enjoy the time she spends with Cassie, Jacqui is often infuriated by her friend's lack of hindsight and is often the voice of reason when the two get into predicaments. Jacqui is a trained Junior grade Olympic boxer, able to go toe-to-toe with Cassie and knock a grown man unconscious with her bare hands.
Takahashi Takeda
Takashi is Kenshi's son and a member of Cassie Cage's Special Forces unit. He was entrusted by his father to Scorpion, who raised him as an apprentice in the Shirai Ryu clan and taught him how to fight. Takeda lived a normal life in Thailand with his mother, Suchin, despite his father not knowing of his existence until he was a child. After his mother was killed by the Red Dragon, he was entrusted to Hanzo when his father left to avenge her death. Takenda expresses his great loyality to the Shirai Ryu as he continues to wear a yellow headband to show his connection to the clan and will fight anyone who is an enemy to it.
Kotal Kahn
Kotal Kahn is an Aztec-inspired warrior whose realm of Osh-Tekk was merged with Outworld. He was additionally worshipped in Earthrealm and served Mileena before overthrowing her from the Outworld throne for treason. Kahn draws power from sunlight and can invoke Blood Magick to strengthen himself. While in his Blood God state, he was even able to overpower and cut off Goro's arms. Kotal Kahn's torso has several tattoos which glow in varying colours depending on his combat variation.
Mortal Kombat X: Guest Appearances
Going by the developers, there are a few guest characters that have been confirmed for the game. While the characters don't essentially belong in the Mortal Kombat universe, expect a few surprises when NetherRealm Studios finally decides on the remaining guest characters for the game.
As of now, we know that Friday the 13th favourite, Jason Vorhees has made it to the roster. Furthermore, Predator has also made the line-up with Tanya and Tremor also making an appearance.
Mortal Kombat X: Carryover Characters
As you may expect, MK X will be carrying over some of the most popular characters in the roster. Some of the returning fan favourites include Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Ermac, Johnny Cage, Kano, Reptile, Raiden, Mileena, and Kitana. Additionally, Sonya Blade, Jax, Kung Lao, and Liu Kang are also making a return.
