Mollywood box office has been witnessing a competitive race for the past seven days as four movies graced the big screens in Kerala. The Christmas box office race began with the release of 'Odiyan' on December 14, and it was followed by the release of movies like 'Njan Prakashan', 'Pretham 2', and 'Ente Ummante Peru' on December 21.
'Odiyan' was the most anticipated films of the year, and due to its mammoth pre-release hype, it collected more than Rs 7.22 crore in the opening day. However, due to negative reviews, box office collection of this Mohanlal film started diminishing from the fourth day.
Odiyan's box office magic faced a drastic setback when Sathyan Anthikad's movie 'Njan Prakashan' hit the theatres on last Friday. Even though 'Njan Prakashan' started slowly at the box office, it found the top gear from the second day due to positive word of the mouth publicity.
On December 21, this Fahadh Faasil-Sreenivasan starrer grossed Rs 1.43 crores from Kerala, and it was followed by Rs 1.81 crore and Rs 2.07 crore on December 22 and 23. As per latest updates, 'Njan Prakashan' has apparently collected more than Rs 16 crore from Kerala alone.
On the other hand, 'Odiyan' collected just Rs 1.23 crore and Rs 1.76 crore from Kerala box office on December 21 and 22, respectively. When compared to 'Njan Prakashan', Odiyan is getting screened in more number of theatres, and these figures indicate that the Fahadh Faasil movie has overtaken 'Odiyan' at the Kerala box-office.
Jayasurya's Ranjith Shankar directorial 'Pretham 2' has collected Rs 5.5 crore at the box office after its seven-day theatrical run, while Tovino Thomas' 'Ente Ummante Peru' collected Rs 3.7 crore. It should be also noted that Kunchakko Boban's 'Thattumpurathu Achuthan' is nowhere near this box office race, as the film has failed to impress both critics and audiences alike.
After analyzing these figures mentioned above, we can clearly come to the conclusion that 'Njan Prakashan' has emerged as the final winner in this Christmas box office race.
