Contrary to reports, Mohun Bagan have not decided to boycott the Calcutta Football League (CFL 2016), International Business Times, India, has been told. Major pandemonium broke out on Monday during the CFL match between Mohun Bagan and Tollygunge Agragami after the Bagan officials complained of poor officiating.
Bagan claimed that they were denied at least three goals by the match officials and an uproar broke soon after. Fans of the former I-League champions also expressed their anger all over the social media and vehemently criticised the IFA (Indian Football Association), the organisers of the Calcutta Football League.
The Indian football side are now stating that the IFA allow them a replay of the match and the fixtures be rescheduled.
"Refereeing in the ongoing CFL Premier Division-A has not been up to the mark and at times has been below standard," wrote Mohun Bagan General Secretary Anjan Mitra in a letter to the IFA. "We at Mohun Bagan feel flabbergasted by the decision of the Assistant Referee in today's match played against Tollygunge Agragami.
"Mr. Goutam Sarkar, Mr. Biswajit Bhattacharya and Mr. Manas Bhattacharya, ex-International football players and expert commentators on direct telecast were watching the match on TV. They damned the decisions and stated that this kind of referring is killing the charm of football and is bound to agitate the feelings of thousands of fans and supporters. They further stated that all three goals were genuine."
The match had to be abandoned by the match commissioner, in consultation with the police, after some spectators intruded into the Mohun Bagan Club Ground to protest the decisions by the referees.
IBTimes India got in touch with a Mohun Bagan official on Tuesday to know their stance on the current development. "We are not quitting the CFL, especially with the big Kolkata Derby against East Bengal coming up in September. As of now, we are awaiting the IFA's reply to our letter. We have made it clear that we want a repeat of the match and the upcoming fixtures be rescheduled," said the club official.
