If asked to list out few must-watch Malayalam movies till date, director Fazil's Manichitrathazhu is sure to be in the list.
When the psychological thriller hit the screens in 1993, the concept of releasing trailer and teaser before the official movie release was not a trend. Now, 23 years after the Mohanlal-starrer got released, a netizen, who goes with the name Arun Editz has come up with an impressive trailer for the movie.
The one-minute-40-second video opened to fabulous response from the audience, who have been sharing it on social media. The video, shared on the Facebook page of Skylark Pictures Entertainment, has so far been viewed more than 3.2 lakh times, at the time of reporting.
Manichitrathazhu, which had then become the highest grosser in Malayalam, narrates the story that is believed to have happened in Alummoottil Tharavadu in Travancore during the 19th century. The movie, starring Mohanlal, Shobana, Suresh Gopi, Nedumudi Venu, Innocent, Vinaya Prasad, KPAC Lalitha, Ganesh Kumar, Sudheesh and Thilakan in significant roles, dealt with an unusual theme, and opened to fabulous response from the audience.
Shobana bagged the National Film Best Actress Award for portraying the role of Ganga and Nagavalli in the movie, which also won the prestigious award under the category of Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. The movie, which has been tagged as one of the best thrillers in Malayalam, has been remade as Apthamitra, Chandramukhi, Rajmohol and Bhool Bhulaiyaa in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Hindi.
