Prime Minister Narendra Modi might be going through a tough time in politics, GST imbroglio, falling exports, intolerance, Madhesi blockade, electoral defeats, et al, but is doing well on Twitter.
The micro-blogging site said on Monday that Modi was the only non-Bollywood person in the list of top 10 most-followed Indians followed on Twitter, a list dominated by Amitabh Bachchan.
As on 4 December, 2015, the veteran actor with 18.1 million followers was the most-followed Indian, followed by Shah Rukh Khan, who fan base on Twitter is 16.5 million. At third is Modi with 16.4 million following him.
Other celebs in the list are Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Deepika Padukone, Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Akshay Kumar and at the 10th slot, A R Rehman.
Former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, with 8.69 million followers, does not figure in the list, despite the game's and his popularity.
Some of the popular hashtags were #INDvsPAK, DelhiElections, HappyDiwali, ChennaiRains, Independence Day, SelfieWithDaughter, BiharResults and SaalEkShuruaatAnek.
For many of the Bollywood celebs, a lot is at stake since two movies "Dilwale" starring Shah Rukh Khan and "Bajirao Mastani" featuring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra are releasing on 18 December, a clash that could impact the fortunes of one of the two movies.
SRK's production house Red Chillies Entertainment (RCE) turns distributor with "Dilwale", Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Bajirao Mastani" will be globally distributed by Eros International Media.
