The body of 26-year-old model Archana Pandey was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her home in Mumbai's Andheri suburbs on Monday. The police have also found a suicide note in which she blamed her boyfriend for the suicide.
On 29 September, the neighbours noticed a foul smell emanating from her house. They knocked repeatedly but the door did not open. Then they informed the police, who broke into the house to find Pandey hanging from the ceiling fan. The body was beginning to decompose.
"When we broke the door open, her decomposed body was hanging from the fan in her bedroom. Going by the condition of the body, it appears that she ended her life three days ago," The Financial Express quoted Versova police senior inspector Arundhati Rane as saying.
"During the searches, we recovered a one-page suicide note in her bedroom, in which she held her boyfriend responsible for the drastic step. A manhunt has been launched for him," she added.
A case of "abetment of suicide" has been registered against her boyfriend Omar Pathan.
"In the note, she stated that Pathan used to harass and ill-treat her prompting her to commit suicide," The Times of India quoted a senior official.
"We are verifying all the details and will accordingly take action," deputy commissioner of police Satya Narayan Chaudhary said.
Pandey, who had left her modelling career in 2009, worked as a financial consultant for Mirza production house and lived in a rented apartment in Shubham Karoti building at New Mahada colony in Versova's Lokhandwala Complex, police said.
