Police are appealing for information after a man stole a crate of Lucazade from a supermarket in south-west London before making his getaway using a hoverboard. CCTV footage shows the suspect entering the Co-op supermarket on Streatham Road, Mitcham on a self-balancing board on 6 September.
The man can be seen gliding into the shop before picking up the crate of the sports energy drink and making off for the exit. The man can then be seen riding away on his hoverboard down the street.
Police are now appealing for help in finding the man seen in the CCTV footage. He is described as a black man and was seen wearing a grey tracksuit top and bottoms. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting image 192069 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
In October, police issued a statement saying it is illegal to ride the hoverboards in public after they started to become poplar on the streets on Britain. In a tweet, Met Police said: Own one of these or thinking about getting one? Theyre illegal to ride in public! alongside a photo of the board.
Police added that motor vehicles must be registered and insured, and that self-balancing scooters would not currently meet the requirements of these schemes, so are not legal for road use.
