'Miruthan,' 'Sethupathi' first day box office collection: New Tamil releases get good opening

Jayam Ravi starrer "Miruthan" and Vijay Sethupathi's "Sethupathi" have opened to fantastic reviews and registered good opening at the box office. The positive pre-talk helped the flicks pull the audience to theatres on the release day.

"Miruthan" has performed better than "Sethupathi" on its first day at the box office as per the early reports coming from the industry. Trade tracker Ramesh tweeted, "#Miruthan opened at No.1 in TN Box office yesterday thanks to @actor_jayamravi 's star power. (sic)"

Director Shakti Soundar Rajan announced that "Miruthan" has done fantastic business on the opening day, but he is yet to announce the exact collection. He tweeted, "Highest Day 1 Collections at the BO for @actor_jayamravi movie !! Will publish the numbers soon !! #MIRUTHAN. (sic)"

"Miruthan" is the first Zombie flick made in the Tamil film industry and this seems to be one of the crowd-pulling factors. Adding to that Jayam Ravi has been part of three hits like "Romeo Juliet," "Thani Oruvan," "Bhooloham" in the last 12 months. As a result, his latest Tamil movie too had drawn the attention of the viewers.

On the other hand, "Sethupathi" has got the 30 percent entertainment tax exemption, given by the state government. It means the gross collection will also be the net income of the Tamil film. Vijay Sethupathi has been consistently delivering decent hits. And audience's interest in watching his latest movie has not come as a surprise. Moreover, it is for the first time he has donned khakhi on-screen and it has attracted the audience to watch the film in big numbers.

"Sethupathi" is expected to perform exceptionally well at the box office in the coming days as the Tamil film has received more than three stars from critics, who have also labelled it as a must watch.
