Jayam Ravi-starrer "Miruthan" has done an earth-shattering business at worldwide box office in its first weekend. In fact, The latest Tamil film has surpassed his previous best of Rs 10.5 crore, set by Mohan Raja directorial "Thani Oruvan."
The box-office figures have been announced by "Miruthan" director Shakti Soundar Rajan. On his Twitter account, he wrote, "#Miruthan TN Opening Weekend 3 day Collection: 10.66 Crs. Worldwide Weekend including ROI and TN BO: 20.13 Crs. Official from Ayangaran."
The worldwide gross collection of "Miruthan" stands at Rs 20.13 crore. This is a huge number for a Jayam Ravi movie and it is also a clear sign of the increasing market of the actor in Kollywood.
However, "Miruthan" has failed to beat the "Thani Oruvan" record at the Chennai box office. From 222 shows, the latest film has raked in Rs 1.17 crore, 11 lakh lesser than his previous best.
"Thani Oruvan" had earned Rs 1.28 crore from 240 shows in its first weekend in Chennai. His other movies like "Romeo Juliet" had done a business of Rs 72.76 lakh and "Sakalakala Vallavan" had raked in Rs 57.85 lakh in its opening weekend in Chennai.
It has to be noted that "Miruthan" clashed with Vijay Sethupathi's "Sethupathi," which has collected Rs 3.5 crore in Tamil Nadu in its opening weekend. The movie has raked in Rs 74 lakh from 216 shows in Chennai. However, both the films have opened to positive reviews and are expected to do well in the coming days.
"Miruthan" is credited as the first Zombie film made in Kollywood. Jayam Ravi and Lakshmi Menon starrer film has been written and directed by Shakti Soundar Rajan. The performance of Ravi and the good story-line have impressed the viewers.
