Playing B J Novak's love interest in The Office wasn't an easy task after Mindy Kaling parted ways with the actor, she revealed during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live.
"I can't speak [for] him, [but] I think for me it was challenging to be in your mid-twenties — I'm such a sentimental person and I take things very hard — but that's the nice thing about being in long friendships," she told host Andy Cohen. "That was, like, 12 years ago when that happened, so you get over things like that, but it totally was very challenging."
Although they are no longer together, Kaling and Novak still keep in touch and they are said to be really close friends. In an earlier interview, Kaling did reveal that she would have married him if he had asked her at that point. "He's a good friend of mine, yeah. He's my best friend. He broke up with me," she said on The Howard Stern Show in September 2014, adding that she would've married her ex if he'd asked. "At the time? Yeah. I was 24. For the record, if anyone asked me to marry them, I would have said yes."
In other news, Kaling's estranged brother Vijay Chokal-Ingam has called out his sister alleging that she has been trying to sabotage his book Almost Black: The True Story of How I Got Into Medical School by Pretending To Be Black. Kaling is quoted on the cover of Chokal-Ingam's self-published memoir saying: "This book will bring shame on our family." However, he doesn't agree, and this is what he said to his sibling: "You play a slut on national TV, and you think this [book] will bring shame on the family?"
