When it comes to choosing between a stark naked Miley Cyrus, riding a construction tool and watching scantily clad women prancing to some 'rapey' lyrics, people clearly prefer the former.
Miley Cyrus' controversial 'Wrecking Ball' has smashed all other videos to become VEVO's most popular video of 2013. The song has topped the most-watched video list of 2013 beating Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' and Katy Perry's 'Roar'.
It isn't surprising that Wrecking Ball took away the title. The video was as controversial as Miley herself. The song, which shows Miley alternating between straddling a wrecking ball, licking a sledgehammer and crying about heartbreak, received solid amounts of censure when it released.
Miley is said to have modelled the video based on the 'Lion and the Cobra' hitmaker, Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2U". While the 'crying about heartbreak while looking earnestly into the camera' part did look like an inspiration from O'Connor's video, the explicit parts were purely 'Miley'. The former reportedly sent a letter to the younger singer to stop 'prostituting' music, which led to a battle of words between the two.
However, the two talented singers decided to call it an 'important dialog' rather than a rift.
Apparently, the 'nakedness' in the video had a deeper meaning. In an interview on the Elvis Duran and the Morning Show, the 21-year-old singer revealed that her nudeness was a 'metaphor' to how vulnerable she was feeling inside, reports The Daily Mail.
The video fuelled several parodies and South Park, the popular animated sitcom, also dedicated a part to Miley and the O'Connor feud.
However, Wrecking Ball was not the only 'Miley' video that featured on the list. Her 'We Can't Stop' came in at the second spot. The 'twerking queen's' videos were followed closely by 'Scream and Shout' by Will.i.am and Britney Spears and 'Diamonds' by Rihanna. 'Blurred Lines' grabbed the seventh spot while Pink's 'Just Give Me a Reason' came in sixth. Surprisingly, the ultra famous boy band, One Direction's "Kiss You" was pushed down to the tenth spot.
