From military jackets worn as mini dresses to brightly coloured animal prints, Italian luxury goods maker Versace showcased a collection fit for the urban jungle at Milan Fashion Week on 25 September, offering bold creations for womens wardrobes next spring.
Under flashing lights, creative director Donatella Versace sent models – including model of the moment Gigi Hadid – down the catwalk for her spring/summer 2016 line in belted dark green and sand army jackets. In show notes, she dubbed her utility jackets the new daywear essential.
Then animal prints, energised with bright colours such as acid yellow, green, purple and orange, appeared in camouflage-like form on an array of creations. Versace put print on luxurious zip-up jackets, tops, trousers and dresses, some tied at the shoulder or hip. Skirts were slashed at the thigh and other short dresses were in leather.
For next springs evening wear, models sashayed down the runway in silk chiffon dresses, also in animal print. Short dresses were embellished with sequins, while others were in lace, which according to the designers notes gave the effect of animal print against the skin. Footwear consisted of chunky platform heels. Versaces Medusa head logo featured on belts and handbags.
Versace expects sales of more than €630m (£464.32m, $704.84m) in 2015, up from €549m in 2014, chief executive Gian Giacomo Ferraris said earlier in September. He added the company, in which US private equity group Blackstone bought a 20% stake in 2014, is looking at the United States or Asia for a stock market listing.
