In a surprising turn of event, American software giant Microsoft has decided to push the launch of its eighth-generation Xbox One gaming console in eight European countries to 2014.
At the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June, Microsoft had promised to release Xbox One in 21 countries in north and South America, Europe and Australia in November. Now, the company said it will introduce Xbox One only in 13 regions - Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Spain, UK, USA and New Zealand this year. Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherland, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland would be getting the new Xbox console in early 2014.
"While we wish we could launch Xbox One simultaneously in these markets, there are many factors that determine the timing of specific market launches. This includes work to localize the Xbox One dash, incorporate additional voice and languages, and build partnerships to bring apps and meaningful local content to each country," the Xbox Team said in a statement.
"We understand this will be disappointing news for our fans in the impacted countries, and we are doing everything we can to bring Xbox One to you as soon as possible next year."
There is no update regarding Xbox launch plans for India, but numerous reports suggest that fans will have to wait till the end of 2014, (possibly November next year). On a positive note, Sony will reportedly launch the new generation PlayStation 4 console in India this Christmas holiday itself for $399 (approximately ₹24,600), $100 cheaper than Xbox console, giving a head start for the Japanese company to boost its market share in India, which is soon emerging as a major global gaming market.
