With each passing day, the smartphone battle in India gets fierce. New smartphone launches in the market makes a tough choice for consumers.
Lava has joined the battle with its latest Iris X8, which is in direct competition with successful Micromax Yu Yureka smartphone. Pricing is the most crucial factor for smartphones to do well in India along with impressive specs and it looks like Lava has managed to hit the point. It remains to be seen whether upcoming Iris X8 is more worth than the Yu Yureka.
We have pinned down all the specs of both Micromax Yu Yureka and Lava Iris X8 side-by-side to make your decision a lot simpler.
Design
Micromax has a simple curved edge design for its Yu Yureka phone and by the looks of it Iris X8 also features a similar design. But the smaller screen size in Iris X8 gives it an elongated look (based on the leaked image) compared to the slightly widened Yureka. The rear camera and flash in both phones is positioned in the same place, on the top left corner.
Iris X8 shows capacitive touch buttons on the phone's panel while Yureka has on-screen buttons. The volume rocker keys are located on the left side in Yureka while all controls including volume and lock/power is found on the right side panel in the Iris X8.
Camera
Micromax Yureka phone wins in this category with 13mp rear facing camera with Sony Exmor RS sensor, Blue-lens architecture, 5-physical element lens, f/2.2 aperture, 75.4 degree wide-angle, full HD (1080p) resolution recording and LED flash. The front camera is also equipped with a better sensor. Yureka sports a 5mp front facing snapper with 71-degree angle lens suitable for taking group selfies.
As for the Iris X8, there's an 8mp rear facing camera with auto-focus, BSI-3 sensor, zoom support, Full HD recording and dual LED flash. The front snapper is equipped with just 3mp.
Under the hood
Yureka wins again in the processor area by using a 64-bit class Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 Octa-core [Quad-core 1.7GHz ARM Cortex A53 + quad-core 1.0GHz A53] SoC compared to Iris X8's 1.4GHz MediaTek Octa-core CPU (Chipset: MT6592M).
Other specs remain almost identical, such as 2GB RAM and 16GB built in storage with expandable option on both phones. While Yureka runs CyanogenMod OS based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat, which will later be upgraded to Lollipop, Iris X8 uses Android 4.4 KitKat upgradable to Lollipop when available. There isn't much to argue between the two smartphones here.
Price
As the most crucial point, both smartphone vendors seem to agree on the same price for their respective models. The Yureka is priced at ₹8,999 and the Lava Iris X8 will also sell for ₹8,999. Iris X8 will commence sales beginning on 9 February.
