Update 1: The pre-registration service has been stopped within minutes after going live on Amazon. The company has thanked users for overwhelming support and has advised prospective consumers to keep tab on the website for more updates.
Update 2: Amazon India has resumed the registration process (HERE) and annouced that Micromax YU Yureka will go on sale on 13 January, 2015
The new Yureka has gained a lot of attention in the media for its exceptional hardware and is yet priced dirt-cheap at ₹8,999.
To provide some perspective on the Micromax YU Yureka, we have listed top five key aspects of the new device, so that users can use this information to decide whether the flagship phablet is worth the money or not.
Five Key Features of Micromax YU Yureka:
Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 SoC: Micromax houses the new generation 64-bit class based Snapdragon 615 Octa-core SoC (System on Chip), manufactured by industry leader Qualcomm.
The advantage of having 64-bit processor is that the phone's performance and RAM management will be more optimised and efficiently used among the apps. Users are less likely to face lag during multi-tasking.
Snapdragon 615 chip comes with H.265/High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), which enables faster computational operations. It will be aptly backed by Adreno 405 graphics engine and 2GB DDR3 RAM.
Cyanogen OS: Though pure stock Android OS provides enhanced performance, efficient RAM management and visually appealing interface than the bloat-ware UIs found in some smartphone brands, most tech-savvy Android users would know that the options for customisations in vanilla OS are still limited.
Here Cyanogen comes as a savior to provide almost unlimited customisation features. In tech circles, custom Cyanogen OS is humorously known as Android on Steroids. It's no wonder that Cyanogen OS is most preferred mobile software among tech-savvy enthusiasts and there are reportedly more than 12 million subscribers across the globe.
Pros of using Cyanogen OS include option to remove any app (even the pre-loaded ones which come with the phone), enhanced performance, better RAM management, regular security updates [case in point POODLE vulnerability fix released last month], quick settings configuration options, regular monthly update, privacy guard (gives users the control to what the applications can learn about you and your contacts),Global Blacklist (gives users the ability to flag telemarketers, robo-callers, annoying people and blacklist them) and many more customisation options.
[Note: It is learnt that Micromax YU Yureka will be the first device among all Android phones in the world to get custom CyanogenMod series Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. That's not all. Yureka will get monthly OTA (Over-The-Air) updates there-after and the company warranty will not get void, even if user roots (unlock) the phone.]

Camera: Micromax YU Yureka ships with a 13.0-megapixel camera with Sony Exmor RS sensor, Blue-lens architecture, 5-physical element lens, f/2.2 aperture, 75.4 degree wide-angle, full HD (1080p) resolution recording, LED flash and pretty decent 5.0-megapixel camera with 71-degree angle lens, which is certain to cheer selfie enthusiasts.
4G-LTE (Cat. 4): With 4G Category 4 certifications (bands include 3, 7, 38, 39, 40, and 41), users can download files with 150 mbps speed and upload files with 50mbps.
[Note: Internet speed depends on network carrier's service and regions]
Price: This is a very important aspect, considering India being a price-sensitive market.
With a sub-9,000 price-tag and some exceptional internal hardware, Micromax has got itself a winner; a potent arsenal to stake claim over Samsung, the top smartphone maker of India.
The latter sits on top with 24% share, whereas the former is placed close second with 20%, according to latest IDC (International Data Corporation) research.
Micromax YU Yureka is priced just ₹8,999. With a dirt-cheap price-tag, it won't be competing with anybody and instead will pose a serious threat to newcomers and MNC brands like Xiaomi, Motorola and OnePlus.
Moreover, most 64-bit class SoC (System on Chip) based devices (ex: HTC Desire 820) selling in the market are priced more than ₹23,000 in India.
Its closest rival will be the Xiaomi's Redmi Note 4G, which costs ₹9,999. It is ₹1000 more than the Micromax phone and houses older chipset -- Snapdragon 400 series quad-core CPU.
