Micromax launched the company's first 6.0-inch phablet Canvas XL A119 in India last week.
With the launch, the Micromax device has begun a price war among smartphone makers. The impact is expected to be more on Nokia as the company's new mid-range phone Lumia 1320, priced ₹23,999, is way above the prices of their rivals' devices in the market.
It remains to be seen if Indian buyers will go for the time-tested Nokia brand or the cheaper Micromax device.
Here is a brief description of the key features of Micromax Canvas XL A119 and Nokia Lumia 1320:
Display:
Micromax Canvas XL A119 sports a 6.0-inch display with qHD (960x540p) resolution with 183 ppi (pixels per inch). Nokia Lumia 1320 also sports a same 6.0-inch size but with an HD (1280x720p) display resolution, having pixel density of 245 ppi.
Processor, RAM and Storage:
In this aspect, Micromax's mid-range phablet takes the lead with a quad-core processor with 1.3GHz CPU speed. Meanwhile, though the Nokia device packs a less efficient dual-core chipset, it makes up with the faster 1.7GHz CPU speed.
Both phones house 1GB RAM and come with microSD card slot for memory expansion.
Camera:
Micromax's Canvas XL houses a decent 8.0-megapixel camera with LED flash, HD video recording ability and a 5.0-megapixel camera on the front.
Nokia's Lumia 1320 sports a 5.0-megapixel camera that comes loaded with two-stage auto focus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording features. It also boasts a 640x480p camera with f/2.8 aperture.
Mobile Operating System:
Nokia Lumia 1320 runs on the updated Windows Phone 8 OS (with Lumia Black), whereas Micromax Canvas XL runs on the ubiquitous Android Jelly Bean OS. Though the Windows Phone operating system boasts a refreshing tiles-based interface and secured closed ecosystem, it is still lags far behind the Android platform in terms of apps and games collection, giving Micromax an edge over Nokia.
Price:
Nokia's Lumia 1320's price hovers around for ₹23,500 in the market, while local player Micromax, known for its affordable devices, has kept the Canvas XL's price under ₹14,000; almost 10k less than its competitor.
Verdict:
Micromax Canvas XL A119:

Nokia Lumia 1320:
