Emerging Indian star smartphone maker Micromax unveiled the flagship phablet, A116 Canvas HD, last month, and made record sales with the smartphone stocks getting sold out within 15 minutes of its release online.
Its Indian counterpart Xolo, a subsidiary of Lava, pulled the wraps off its latest Intel based flagship smartphone, Xolo X1000, at an unpacking event in Goa on Thursday.
Both X1000 and A116 Canvas HD pack faster processors, but they differ in other aspects in terms of display resolutions, camera specs.
Brief comparison of main specs of Micromax Canvas HD A116 and Xolo X1000:
Display:
Micromax Canvas HD and Xolo X1000 each sport a 720p HD display with minor difference in pixel density. While Canvas HD pack 294 pixels per inch display resolution, X1000 comes with 313 ppi. The pixel density difference is no issue since even tech critics can hardly notice the dissimilarity.
Processor:
Canvas HD packs a 1.2 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor, whereas X1000 sports a faster single-core Intel Atom Processor Z2480 with 2GHz CPU. The Micromax smartphone still trumps due to the fact its quad-core processor is more efficient than the single-core processor.
With four cores, Canvas HD can do multiple jobs using energy efficiently, thereby increasing the battery life span of the smartphone.
Camera:
Micromax Canvas HD A116 and Xolo X1000 each pack a 8.0-megapixel main camera with flash support and a VGA front camera.
Mobile Operating System:
In terms of mobile operating system, they both stand even in this department as X1000 and A116 canvas HD run on Android OS. But, there still remains a question as to why X1000, which is more expensive than the Micromax's smartphone packs an older Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS, where as Canvas HD runs on the latest Android Jelly Bean OS.
In other aspects such as Graphics Processing Unit, Memory, RAM, network connectivity the smartphones have minor negligible difference.
But, in terms of price, Micromax has an advantage over its Indian counterpart Xolo. In a price-conscious market like India, price plays a decisive role in attracting middle class buyers who make the biggest chunk of the population.
With an expensive price-tag of ₹19,999, Xolo X1000 has one extraordinary specs of faster 2GHz CPU, but nothing much else to brag against the competitive priced Micromax A116 Canvas HD (₹13,999).
