Spice Group-owned S-Mobility officially released the company's new flagship phablet Pinnacle Stylus Mi-550 today.

India's smartphone arena is lately witnessing a surge in the launch of affordable smartphones, especially with the local players looking to take on international brands, who are leading niche top-end market. Spice Pinnacle Stylus Mi-550 is the latest entrant to hit the price-sensitive subcontinent market.

Prospective buyers looking for a budget alternative to the MNC branded big-screen smartphones (Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and LG G2), can check out the popular indigenous phablets - Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 and the new Pinnacle Stylus Mi-M550.

Micromax's phablet sports a 5.7-inch IPS LCD screen with HD 720x1280p resolution having a pixel density close to 258 ppi (pixels per inch).

On the other hand, Spice Pinnacle Stylus too flaunts same HD LCD screen with 720x1280p resolutions but gives sharper image on the screen thanks to its smaller 5.5-inch display size. It reportedly boasts pixel density of 267 ppi.

Processor, RAM and Storage:

In terms of power, Canvas Doodle 2 and Pinnacle Stylus Mi-550 stand even as they both pack the same 1.2GHz quad-core processor made from MediaTek and 1GB RAM.

In terms of storage capacity, Spice handset - despite packing a meagre 8GB - scores a point against Micromax phablet as it houses microSD card slot to expand memory up to 32GB, whereas Canvas Doodle 2 comes with non-expandable 16GB storage, thereby handicapping users with limited space (max 13 GB) to add films, music, apps and games.

Camera:

Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 boasts a12.0-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash support on the rear side and a 5.0-megapixel snapper at the front side.

Spice Pinnacle Stylus Mi-550 sports an 8.0-megapixel main-camera and 2.0-megapixel front-facing camera.

Even though, there is a huge difference between Micromax and Spice device in terms of camera (main) resolutions, they both are capable of recording full HD (1920x1080p) video.  

Operating System:

In this aspect, both Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 and Spice Pinnacle Stylus Mi-550 stand even as the two phablets run on Android v 4.2 Jelly Bean OS platform.

Price:

According to recent reports, Micromax phablet costs around ₹17,000, where as the Spice handset's price is hovering around ₹15,500, almost ₹1,500 less than its competitor.
