In her final interview from the White House, Michelle Obama opened up to Oprah Winfrey about her eight years as the First Lady, her reaction to the US elections and what she plans to do in the future.
In her interview, Michelle told Winfrey about her meeting with the future First Lady Melania Trump. "My offer to Melania was, you really don't know what you don't know until you're here, so the door is open," Michelle said. "I've told her and as Laura Bush told me and other first ladies told me...We will do whatever they need to help them succeed."
Talking about her being called an "angry black woman," Michelle said, "That was one of those things where you think, 'Dang, you don't even know me.' You just sort of feel like, 'Wow, where did that come from?'"
In a straightforward reply, Michelle dismissed all the rumours and speculations about her running for office. "No. Look, that is one thing I don't do, I don't make things up. If I were interested I would say it. But it's not something I would do."
In the hour-long interview, she also spoke about her hopes for the country. "Hope is necessary. It's a necessary concept and Barack didn't just talk about hope because he thought it was just a nice slogan to get votes," she said. "He and I and so many believe that — what else do you have if you don't have hope? What do you give your kids if you can't give them hope?"
At the end of the hour-long interview, President Barack Obama joined his wife and echoed the same thoughts about hope and how he is hopeful about the next generation. Praising Michelle, Obama told Winfrey, "The way in which she blended purpose and policy with fun so that she was able to reach beyond Washington on her health care initiatives, on her military family work was masterful."
Meanwhile, Obama is not the only one praising Michelle. Soon after the interview was aired, several Twitter users showered praises on Michelle for her last interview as FLOTUS.
