Three extremely graphic images of the traumatic incident and the identity of the homeless man seen brutally injured in Miami's naked "zombie" attack has been revealed.
According to a Daily Mail report, the police have identified the victim as a 65-year-old man named Ronald Poppo, who is on the streets since 1983 and also has a long history of arrests for drinking in public and trespassing.
On Saturday, May 26, Poppo was rescued by Miami police from an aggressive man who was eating his face on a downtown highway bridge that connects Miami with Miami Beach.
A 31-year-old man, identified as Rudy Eugene from Miami, viciously attacked Poppo and started "tearing him to pieces with his mouth," and ripped his skin, according to an eye witness who first intimated the police.
The eye witness, Larry Vega, who was riding his bicycle off the MacArthur Causeway, told the local daily that Eugene was literally biting the face of another naked man.
"It was just a blob of blood," he said. "You couldn't really see, it was just blood all over the place."
The president of the Miami Fraternal Order of Police, Sgt. Armando Aguilar, said that "He had his face eaten down to his goatee. The forehead was just bone. No nose, no mouth."
The witness told WSVN-TV that at last when the naked attacker refused to stop devouring his flesh and started growling at the police officer who tried to stop him, the cops opened fire and rescued the victim.
The attacker, Eugene, died in the incident and seriously injured Poppo was right away taken to the Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he is currently recovering from the attack; though 75- 80 percent of his face is brutally injured and the condition is critical.
Ronald is enduring "some of the worst injuries staff had ever encountered." Sgt. Javier Ortiz, vice president of the Miami Fraternal Order of Police, told the newspaper that it was one of the "goriest scenes I've ever been to."
On Monday, the mugshot of Eugene, referred to as the "face-eating naked zombie," was released by Miami police.
Daily Mail reported that the attacker's family has come forward, claiming that Eugene was a funny "nice hardworking gentleman," who washed cars at a local dealership.
Eugene reportedly divorced wife after two years of marriage in 2005 and according to the records obtained by The Miami Herald, he had no income.
In addition, according to Florida Department of Law Enforcement records, Eugene was arrested a couple of times in the past few years for trespassing and marijuana related charges.
According to the recent reports, the attack may be attributed to drug like "bath salts," or LSD.
"It's going to take some time to forget. I never thought I would see someone else eating someone. It was really, really horrific," Vega said.
The video obtained from the recording by the surveillance camera from The Miami Herald building shows graphic images of the men's legs lying next to each other after the shooting.
Though the police has not yet confirmed the genuinity of the photographs, a Reddit user "Confisco" released two horrific images of Saturday's attack. The most graphic of them showing victims face completely eaten up and brutally injured by the attacker.
