A report from China has surfaced online that Xiaomi is building a new phone series, Mi Edge, with design features similar to Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
Technology blog Mobile-Dad, citing a source, has claimed that Xiaomi Mi Edge's design elements are inspired from a combination metal-clad Mi Note and Galaxy S6 Edge. It is said that upcoming device will boast metal chassis and also probably come covered with metal shell as well. And on the front-side, the company will incorporate 5.2-inch Sharp made dual-edge 2K (2560x1440p) resolution display, where in screen will extend towards the edge on both the sides, identical to Samsung new 2015 flagship series.
Under the hood, it is expected either pack 3GB or 4GB RAM, 64-bit class Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 Hexa-core SoC (System on Chip), finger-print sensor and 16mp camera (probably with Optical Image Stabiliser) on the rear-side. Other hardware details such as storage capacity, front-camera and battery details are yet to be ascertained.
Tipster says that the new Xiaomi Mi Edge will cost around 2500 Yuan ($395/€350/₹ 16,150) and would be unveiled in October. If the leaked details of Mi Edge do turn out to be true, Xiaomi -- which is already the number one smartphone maker in China (courtesy, Counterpoint research study) -- will have a killer of a device to extend its stay at the top.
It is yet to ascertained whether the company will launch Mi Edge along with flagship Mi5, like Samsung did earlier this year or now. As of now, Xiaomi is yet to respond to the media-related to the rumoured Mi Edge. Stay tuned for more updates.
