After months of speculations, Samsung on Thursday (13 August) finally pulled the wraps of the new Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus in the New York City, US.
"At Samsung, we believed in the promise that large screen smartphones could actively address some major consumers pain points by providing users with a better viewing experience and more productivity on-the-go," said JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Division, Samsung Electronics.
"With the launch of the Galaxy S6 edge+ and Note5, we're reemphasizing our ongoing commitment to bold, fearless innovation that meets the needs of our consumers," he added.
Both Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+'s designs boasts same design language seen in company's flagship smartphone Galaxy S6 series released early this year. They come with airplane grade metal based crafted body and also comes with an additional protective Gorilla Glass 4 shield.
Samsung Galaxy Note 5:
Galaxy Note 5 to flaunt a 5.7-inch super AMOLED QHD (2560x1440p) display and house the company's proprietary Exynos 7420 SoC (System on Chip) backed by Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, 4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB inbuilt storage options and 3000 mAh battery.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus
Galaxy S6 Edge+ looks like a stretched version of the original Galaxy S6 Edge (5.1-inch) with dual-edge display where-in phone's screen will extend towards the edge both right and left side.
Under the hood, it ships with 4GB LPDDR 4 series RAM, 32GB/64GB inbuilt memory, 16mp camera with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), 4K video recording ability, a 5mp snapper on the front and a 3000 mAh battery.
Samsung claims that both Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+ will come with advanced battery charging technology. They boast wired and wireless charging technology and the 'embedded wireless charging technology' which is compatible with virtually any wireless pad available in the market. With wired charging, both devices can be fully charged in approximately 90 minutes, and through Samsung's latest wireless charger, they can be fully charged in approximately 120 minutes.
All New S-Pen:
Galaxy Note 5 is also expected to come with new 5th generation S Pen. It comes with unique clicking mechanism which helps users pull S Pen out with just one quick click. Users can also now quickly jot down ideas or information when the screen is off without even unlocking the phone. 'Air Command' feature gets more intuitive and practical as well; now the icon hovers for instant access to all of S Pen tools from any screen at any time. Users can also annotate on PDF files and capture lengthy web articles or long images at once via 'Scroll capture', said the company.
Samsung Pay:
The company also launched flagship wireless payment system Samsung Pay. It will launch in Korea on August 20 and in the U.S. on September 28. "Protected by Samsung KNOX, fingerprint verification and digital tokenization, Samsung Pay works with both MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) and NFC (Near Field Communication) technologies, bringing consumers closer than ever to a world without wallets," said Samsung.
Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ Availability:
The company confirmed that both the Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+ will hit stores on 21 August in US and Canada. Prospective buyers can even pre-order the devices on Thursday (13 August) at 3PM EDT.
