Parineeti Chopra and Ayushmann Khurrana's Meri Pyaari Bindu opened to lukewarm response and made a poor collection at the Indian box office on its first day. The film has also failed to surpass the box office collection of Parineeti's previous film Daawat-E-Ishq (2014).
Meri Pyaari Bindu was released to low occupancy of 10 percent at around 750 screens across the domestic market on Friday, May 12. While the film witnessed a poor response in the morning shows, it was only towards the evening shows that the business slightly improved. Self-proclaimed trade analyst Kamaal R Khan tweeted that 30 percent of morning shows of Meri Pyaari Bindu were cancelled across the country because of lack of audience.
The film collected Rs 1.75 crore at the Indian box office on its opening day. "#MeriPyaariBindu Fri ₹ 1.75 cr. India biz," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The film has failed to break the opening day box office collection record of Daawat-E-Ishq, which did a business of Rs 3.75 crore on its opening day. The poor box office collection can be attributed to negative reviews and poor word-of-mouth publicity.
Also, Baahubali: The Conclusion (Baahubali 2) -- which has turned out to be the biggest blockbuster in the history of Indian cinema and is still running houseful even after two weeks of release -- has heavily affected Parineeti's film. It is also competing against Amitabh Bachchan starrer Sarkar 3, which released on the same day.
With such low figures, it looks like Meri Pyaari Bindu, which was made with a budget of Rs 22 crore (satellite and digital rights being pre-sold already), will have to struggle to collect a decent lifetime figure at the box office.
