Mercedes-Benz India launched its super luxurious sub-brand Maybach in India with the S600. Essentially a high luxury version of the Mercedes-Benz S600 sedan, the Maybach S600 is longer than the regular S-Class with 200mm longer wheelbase. The Maybach S600 has been launched as a CBU unit and priced at Rs. 2.6 crore (ex-showroom, Pune).
The Maybach S600 is the most premium offering of the German marquee to India and features a mighty V12 engine. Mercedes-Benz India also said that the Maybach S500 with a V8 engine will be locally assembled in its Pune facility and will be priced at Rs. 1.67 crore. The super luxury sedan is the 12th model on the brand's "15 models in 2015" product strategy.
The Mercedes-Maybach S600 competes with its British rivals such as Rolls-Royce and Bentley, which means the vehicle has all the luxury facilities developed by the manufacturer. The car is 207mm longer than the LWB S-class, which is currently sold in India. The double M logo at the C-pillar and chrome housing for the window panels are the main changes on the exterior.
The interior gets luxury features such as hand-stitched Nappa leather. The car has executive seats that can be reclined to 43 degrees and it also boasts of 1540-watt Burmester 3D surround sound system with 24 speakers.
The S600 will be powered by a 5980cc, V12 twin-turbo engine that develops 523bhp at 4900-5300rpm and 830Nm of torque at 1900-4000rpm mated to a 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission. Mercedes claims the vehicle can run 0-100kmph in just 5.0 seconds and has a top speed of 250kmph.
Daimler AG, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, revived the Maybach brand in November 2014. The super-luxury brand came under the Daimler umbrella before production stopped in 2012 due to poor sales.
