Mercedes-Benz India was on a launching spree in 2015 launching 15 cars as part of "15 in 15" product presentation strategy. The year 2016 seems to be nothing short in terms of launches and the German manufacturer announced the launch of GLE 450 AMG Coupe on 12 January in Mumbai.
The GLE 450 AMG is essentially the coupe version of the GLE SUV, which was launched this year. The face of the crossover is similar to the GLE SUV. After the B-pillar it takes a dramatic slope, in line with the coupe car design. According to the manufacturer, the GLE 450 AMG Coupe is the best blend of the SUV and sports car.
The vehicle will be powered by 2996cc V6 twin-turbo petrol engine that develops 362bhp at 5500-6000rpm and 520Nm of torque at 1800-4200rpm mated to 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission. The SUV also comes with 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive. The engine helps the GLE coupe reach 100 kmph in 5.7 seconds before reaching a top speed of 250kmph.
The GLE 450 AMG measures 4,891mm in length, 2,003mm in width and 1,719mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,915mm. To make it different from the regular coupe, the AMG version gets gloss-black accents on single-slat grill. The black colour treatment is carried in ORVM that are equipped with turn indicators and to the roof. The front bumper gets large air-intakes while the rear bumper comes with twin chrome exhausts.
The German manufacturer is expecting biggest ever sales number in India in 2015 with the host of new launches. The company passed 10,000 units of sales in October leaving behind the other German luxury car manufacturers -- BMW and Audi.
