German luxury car-maker Mercedes-Benz on Thursday, June 2, pulled the wraps off its much-awaited new GLC Edition 1 SUV in India with a price tag starting at Rs. 50.7 lakh (ex-showroom Pune).
Available in both petrol and diesel variants, the GLC SUV will be brought to India as CBU (completely built units). Powering the SUV is 2,143cc turbocharged diesel or 1,991cc turbocharged petrol motor. While the diesel engine can churn out 170bhp and 400Nm of torque, the petrol mill has the capacity to churn out 245bhp of power and peak torque of 370Nm. The engines come mated to nine-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive system.
"The GLC underscores our philosophy of introducing world-class products from our global portfolio for our discerning Indian customers. We have seen a growing penchant for luxury SUVs amongst the luxury car customers in India and the addition of the GLC is going to redefine the segment completely. The GLC gives the customers a sporty, dynamic and a completely new generation SUV to opt for. We are confident that the GLC will cement Mercedes-Benz's strong presence in the luxury SUV segment in India. The introduction of the GLC also fills the gap in our SUV portfolio, making Mercedes-Benz the luxury car manufacturer with the most extensive range of SUVs, ranging from the GLA to the iconic AMG G 63," said Roland Folger, the Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, in a statement.
From a visual standpoint, the GLC SUV, which was formerly known as GLK, boasts three-dimensional radiator grille, split LED rear lamps and 'Edition 1' badging on the wings. It rides on 18-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, it features cargo bars behind the rear seat backrest to enlarge the luggage compartment by 30 litres, Mercedes-Benz Comand infotainment system and leather upholstery. On the safety front, the GLC packs seven airbags (dual front airbags, front side airbags and curtain airbags), Active Parking Assist with Parktronic, curve dynamic assist, reversing camera and tyre pressure monitoring system.
Other features include panoramic sliding sunroof, ambient lighting with three colours and five dimming levels, Eco start/stop function and five driving modes — comfort, eco, sport, sport+ and individual.
The GLC comes with service packages. The standard packages start at Rs.63, 000 for the petrol variant and Rs.78,000 for the diesel variant.
