Automakers like Nissan and Mercedes-Benz India will expand their portfolio in the country with the addition of new models of existing cars. While Japanese carmaker Nissan will bring the new Micra hatchback to India on Friday, June 2, German carmaker Mercedes-Benz will add E220d to its E-Class range in the country.
Nissan Micra
This is not the all-new Micra. The Micra that is being launched on Friday in India will be the visually updated model of the existing Micra. It will bring some newness in the hatchback before the arrival of the all-new Micra, which was unveiled last year.
In the new avatar, while Micra's overall design and the styling is expected to remain untouched, a few cosmetic additions will be made on the exterior and interior. Rumours suggest that changes will be made on the Micra Active, with added features like Follow Me Headlamps, LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) and revised front and rear bumpers on the exterior. Nissan has been teasing the upcoming Micra on its social media platforms and the images indicate the addition of new features such as a new infotainment system with navigation, automatic rain sensing wipers, automatic headlamps and reverse parking sensors. Nissan is also expected to offer driver side airbag as standard in the new Micra.
Under the hood, Nissan Micra will continue to be powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. In the current Micra, the petrol mill is tuned to churn out 75bhp of power; the diesel one generates 62bhp of power.
OverDrive reports that new 2017 Nissan Micra Active will be priced in the range of Rs. 5.01 lakh to Rs. 7.40 lakh (all prices ex-Mumbai).
Mercedes-Benz E220d
Mercedes-Benz will launch the E220d variant of its E-Class sedan in India on Friday. Mercedes-Benz, which drove in the E-Class LWB (Long Wheel Base) in India earlier this year, currently sells E200 and E350d variants. The upcoming E220d will be positioned between E200 and E350d.
Mercedes-Benz E220d will be the new entry-level variant of the E-Class sedan and is expected to be priced at round Rs. 60 lakh. Powering the new E220d will be a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine, which is expected to churn out 191bhp of power and 400 Nm of torque, mated to 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. The current diesel engine version — the E350d — is powered by a V6 2987cc motor churning out 258hp of power at 3,400rpm and 620Nm of torque at 1,600-2,400rpm. It comes mated to 9G-tronic automatic transmission.
Stay tuned for the updates.
