Mercedes-Benz India is all set to celebrate 20 years in India with the launch of a special variant of the E-Class, christened as Edition E, on Feb.24. The E-class was the first car model sold by Mercedes-Benz in India and is the highest selling luxury sedan till date, according to the company.
The Edition E is expected to get a styling treatment similar to the Edition C, which was launched in 2014 in India before the entry of the new generation C-Class. The Edition E is likely to get an AMG body kit, including redesigned front and rear bumpers, side skirts, larger AMG alloys with black accents, headlamps with smoked treatment and Edition C badges. These changes will essentially keep the current generation E-Class fresh till the arrival of a new generation to India, expected in the second half of 2016.
The powertrain will not get any changes. The current E-Class is sold in E200 trim that comes with 2.0-litre petrol engine developing 300Nm of torque. The diesel options include E 250CDI powered by 2143cc turbo-diesel developing 500Nm of torque and E 350CDI drawing power from 2987cc V6 diesel engine with an output of 620Nm of torque.
Mercedes-India adopted 15 new product launches in its 2015 strategy, christened as "15 in 15," and it helped the company to reach the top spot of luxury car sales in India, dethroning Audi. The German company confirmed 12 new launches in 2016 to retain the throne and the Edition E will be one of the 12 launches.
