The 'Bridesmaids' star, Melissa McCarthy, who recently made headlines for losing 45 pounds in just five months, is in the news again. McCarthy recently announced plans to launch her own fashion line that will include clothing for women of all sizes.
It is no news that the 44-year-old actress' weight has fluctuated a lot over the years.
"[I've been] every size on the planet. I have experience dressing me as a 6, a 12 and more. And when you go above a size 12, you don't lose your love of fashion. I always said, 'Why can't I find great stuff?'" the 'Mike & Molly' actress told Women's Wear Daily, Fox News reports.
The Emmy-winning actress said in a recent interview that she wanted to become a fashion designer since grade school and thinks that this is the right time to take that step.
"It's something I've done since grade school. I'd lay on the floor, look through Vogue and cut out patterns. It was everything I ever wanted to do," Today.com reports.
She has teamed up with Sunrise Brands to create a fashion line that will include clothing, jewellery as well as beauty products for women.
"I always said, 'Why can't I find great stuff?' And Sunrise was up for the challenge. Sunrise isn't afraid to shake it up and bring plus-size up to fashion. I'm doing all sizes. It's a strange thing to stop at a certain size. Women don't, so why should clothes?" McCarthy said of the line.
The fashion brand has not been named as yet and it is in talks to launch its casual sportswear line in fall 2015. Accessories and beauty products are expected to roll out by mid-2016 and 2017. The price of the items will range between $39 and $110.
McCarthy has faced criticism for her size. In February, American film critic for New York Observer Rex Reed had called McCarthy "tractor-sized" and "a gimmick comedian who has devoted her short career to being obese and obnoxious with equal success."
She had responded to the comments, saying: "I felt really bad for someone who is swimming in so much hate. I just thought, that's someone who's in a really bad spot, and I am in such a happy spot. I laugh my head off every day with my husband and my kids who are mooning me and singing me songs," Inquisitr reports.
