Meizu is back at setting new records for smartphone registrations ahead of the device's sale date. After launching the ultra-affordable m3 smartphone in China on Monday, the handset has already become a sensation, recording 4.5 million pre-registrations in just 24 hours, the company said in a statement to the Chinese media.
According to GSMArena (via MyDrivers), Meizu m3's pre-order milestone surpassed the company's latest flagship Meizu Pro 6's first day pre-sales, which was 3 million. It's worth noting that pre-orders and pre-registrations do not involve any exchange of cash and could simply outline consumers' interest in the device.
The actual sale of the m3 smartphone in China begins on Friday, April 29, from Meizu Mall and other official retailers in China. Meizu m3 comes in two variants, one with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage and the other has 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. The entry-level model costs ¥599 (around $92/ Rs. 6,100), while the 32GB storage model is priced at ¥799 (around $120/ Rs. 8,200).
In terms of specifications, Meizu m3 has a 5-inch HD display with 296ppi and uses a Schott Xensation cover glass for protection of the 2.5D screen. The handset sports a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF and LED flash, and a 5MP front snapper with larger f/2.0 aperture.
Meizu m3 looks identical to the M3 Note, but has a polycarbonate unibody. It is powered by a 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6750 octa-core processor and a 2,870mAh battery. Like the predecessor, the m3 also has a hybrid card slot, which either supports a secondary SIM card or a microSD card up to 128GB. The handset runs Android 5.1 Lollipop-based Flyme 5.1 OS.
Meizu m3 comes in white, blue, gray, gold and pink and has the standard mBack button, which carries out the home function when pressed or back function when tapped. The handset's international availability is unknown at the moment, but the company informed us that it will launch the m3 in India "very soon." Meizu is holding a launch event in India on May 11, where we expect to see the m3 as well as the M3 Note.
