New Delhi: A 17-year-old MBBS student allegedly committed suicide early Sunday by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her hostel room in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, police said.
Police said they were called after Khushboo Chaudhary's hostel inmates spotted her hanging in her room from the room's window around 2.50 am and approached hostel security.
"The room was locked from inside. We broke open the door and found Khushboo hanging. The body has been sent for a post-mortem," a police official said.
A resident of Bikaner in Rajasthan, Khushboo took admission in MBBS first year on July 10.
Meanwhile, AIIMS authorities informed the student's family about her death.
AIIMS also conducted an internal inquiry to find out the exact cause for her action.
"A preliminary inquiry by AIIMS ruled out ragging or any adjustment difficulties as a possible cause for her alleged suicide as she had been a student at the AIIMS for six weeks only," AIIMS spokesperson Amit Gupta said in an official statement.
Police seized Khushboo's mobile phone to look for clues. No suicide note was found in her room.
According to Khushboo's friends, she was a cheerful girl and spent Saturday evening with most of her friends, shopping and going out.
One of her friends informed police that she had been interacting normally with them till a few hours before her alleged suicide.
