McLaren Automotive has revealed the 675LT Spider sports car limited to only 500 units worldwide. The roofless version of the McLaren 675LT features a sportier exterior with extended front splitter, carbon-fibre door sills and pronounced side intake. At the rear, the lightweight titanium crossover twin exhausts are placed below the active longtail airbrake which is 50% larger than other Super Series models.
The interior comes with Alcantara leather and carbon-fibre used extensively. A pair of carbon fibre-shelled racing seats saves a combined 15kg, and feature '675LT' embossed on it. The Spyder version is heavier by 40kg than the hardtop version and the weight is due to the mechanism that retracts the three-piece roof.
Under the skin, the 675LT Spider is powered by the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine from the coupe sibling that develops 666bhp delivered at 7,100rpm and 700Nm available between 5,000-6,500rpm. The engine is mated to seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. McLaren claims the powertrain features more efficient turbos, design changes to the cylinder heads and exhaust manifolds, new camshaft and lightweight connecting rods, and a faster-flowing fuel pump and delivery system. McLaren claims a 0 to 100kmph time of 2.9 seconds which is just 0.2 second behind the coupe sibling.
As standard, the 675LT Spider is fitted with 10-spoke 19-inch lightweight forged alloy wheels at front while the rear gets 20-inch wrapped in P Zero Trofeo R tyres. The sports car will be available in 20-inch wheels as optional.
The 675LT Spider is the fifth new model debuted by McLaren Automotive in 2015. This latest model joins the McLaren P1 GTR, 570S Coupe, 540C Coupe and the 675LT Coupe this year.
