Nayantara's "Maya" has struck gold at the Tamil Nadu box office. The horror-thriller has done fantastic business in four days in the state.
After having a good first weekend, "Maya" retained good viewership on working Monday, 21 September. In the first four days, the movie collected around Rs 6 crore and its Telugu version, "Mayuri", has also done well.
In Chennai, "Maya" had 180 shows, from which it earned Rs 86.58 lakh in its first weekend (3 days).
Delighted by the stupendous response, Prabhu SR told Behindwoods that the movie is heading towards reaping profits.
"The film has grossed around Rs 5.5 to 6 crores in Tamil Nadu after the first 4 days. It is well on its way to being profitable and will be among the most viable films in recent times. In Telugu ("Mayuri") too, the film has opened very well with a 4 days distributors share of around 2.75 crores. We are very happy overall, with the reviews and the opening," the website quoted the producer as saying.
The Tamil movie has been made with moderate budget, and Nayantara's remuneration is the only expensive investment that the makers have made on the movie. The producer has also reduced the marketing cost as the publicity has been minimal.
"Maya" has opened to brilliant response and good word-of-mouth is expected to help the film do better business in coming days. The simultaneous release of "Trisha Illana Nayanthara" did not affect the film.
The good storyline, thrilling moments and brilliant performance of Nayantara are the highlights of "Maya". The movie is expected to start making profits by the end of its first week in theatres.
"Maya" has been written and directed by Ashwin Saravanan. Aari, Amzath Khan, Lakshmi Priyaa and others are part of the cast.
