A massive fire which gutted down the sets of Indian comedy show "Comedy Nights with Kapil" on Wednesday caused several crores worth of damage.
Several high-end equipments used in the show were destroyed in the fire that broke out in Goregaon's Film City in Mumbai. There were no casualties reported, but the show's producers have incurred a heavy loss of around ₹20 crore.
When asked about the incident, the show's host, Kapil Sharma, told The Times of India, "The fire broke out due to short-circuit. Thankfully, there are no causalities in the accident. But, it is a major loss for us."
Further explaining the gravity of the loss, the comedian said, "I am not sure of the figures but it must have been a loss of around ₹ 20-22 crore, since the sets were all set for shoot today with all the lights, camera and other properties ready."
The fire broke out on a day when Kapil was to shoot an episode with playback singer Sonu Nigam. The funnyman did not let the somber event mar his spirit as he tweeted to his fans, "V all r fine.thnks for ur concern..need ur best wishes..v wl b back for all of u..love u all."
He also said that the producers will shoot at an alternative location until the original sets get renovated.
"Comedy Nights with Kapil" which is also the comedian's debut production, is presently one of the top television shows in India with high TRP ratings. The show is aired on Colours TV channel and features several celebrity guests.
