With just $50 in her pocket, Mary made a name for herself in New York City by marrying successful real estate investor Frederick C. Trump. Although Mary and her son had a close relationship, Donald never mentioned his mothers emigration, or even his own Scottish roots, on his campaign website for the presidency.
