Priyanka Chopra starrer biopic "Mary Kom" is set to open on a grand note at the box office on Friday, 5 September.
"Mary Kom" is a biopic based on the life of Indian boxer Mangte C. Mary Kom. The movie, directed by Omung Kumar, is a woman oriented film that features Chopra in the lead role.
The film's genre is rare – sports biopic – and hence it is one of the most talked projects of Bollywood.
The first look posters and trailer have already created curiosity among the audience, while the film's music took the buzz on a different level.
And the leading lady, Chopra is leaving no stone unturned to promote the film. With all the factors working in favour of the film, it is making right noises at the box office.
As a result, the film is expected to open with decent occupancy, especially in multiplexes across the country.
The Teacher's Day release is expected to have an occupancy of around 50-60% in the morning. The occupancy is expected to pick up during the evening and night shows.
The other factors that will help the opening day box office collection are:
Tax Free Status: Even before its release, the film has been exempted from tax in states including Assam, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
"As the movie revolves around boxer Mary Kom, the pride of the northeast and the country as a whole, we have decided to exempt it from entertainment tax," Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said, according to IANS.
Solo Release: Initially, it was supposed to release with "Daawat-e-Ishq", but the release of romantic entertainer got postponed. Thus, the biopic will enjoy a solo release. The film would also benefit at the collection centers as there isn't any competition from older releases. "Singham Returns" and "Mardaani" have almost finished their box office run and "Raja Natwarlal" has failed to perform.
Screen Count: Although, not as big as other commercial films like "Kick" or "Singham Returns", "Mary Kom" still managed to get 1,500 screens in India.
