Over the past couple of days, James Gunn has a lot on his plate. While he was busy finishing the script of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, he found himself in hot waters when a few of his old inappropriate tweets got him fired from Disney.
The James Gunn vs Disney/Marvel controversy witnessed the Guardians of the Galaxy cast and fans stand by him. Now, Gunn has more than his own set of Guardians standing beside him. He has a slew of "Guardians" from Hollywood offering him work in case Marvel Studios doesn't rehire him.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, several big production houses are keen on roping in the controversial director. One of the many studios interesting in hiring Gunn is Warner Bros. Many producers, on the basis of anonymity, said that while the tweets were inappropriate, the director is a better person now and they wouldn't mind working with him if given a chance.
"I'd work with him in a heartbeat," said a senior executive from the rival studio. "I've been advised that we can't bring anything to him until the Disney matter is 100 percent resolved," says another studio executive.
The producers have been asked to remain anonymous because Gunn is not allowed to discuss future projects until his negotiation to exit Disney is going on.
With new offers waiting for him, Disney is reportedly considering going ahead with the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 script penned down by Gunn. The report came soon after rumours took the internet by storm that the studio is scrapping his script completely to start afresh with the movie's plot. This means that Gunn would still be associated with the project, in one way or the other.
While Disney and Gunn are making their way through the complications, the GotG cast members are constantly supporting the director, especially Dave Bautista. The Drax actor threatened he would leave the Guardians franchise if the Gunn's script would not be incorporated.
"Where I'm at right now is that if (Disney/Marvel) don't use that script, then I'm going to ask them to release me from my contract, cut me out or recast me. I'd be doing James a disservice if I didn't," he told Shortlist.
