The work on Maruti Suzuki's upcoming compact SUV YBA seems to be going at a rapid pace as the company continues testing the model on the Indian roads.
The YBA, the model that is expected to make its India debut at the 2016 Auto Expo in February, is still undertaking some public-road testing; and what we now have is a fresh batch spy shots of a new prototype taken in Shimla. What is interesting about the latest spy shots is that it gives an early glimpse at the interiors of the model, thanks to the folks at Team BHP for sharing the YBA cabin images.
Judging by the images, it is clear that the cabin has got all black dashboards with piano black insert around the central air-conditioner vents and centre console. Characteristics of all Maruti models, YBA also follows the simple formula in the interior and gets touchscreen SmartPlay system, fabric seats and automatic climate control system. There also seems to be a storage space under the climate control.
Coming to the exterior of the model, YBA seemed to have borrowed its design cues from Suzuki's global model Vitara. It has also got an 'open-mounted' lower air dam, front grille with chrome-touch, raked windscreen and cladding on the wheel arches.
The SUV, which is based on the Suzuki iV-4 concept, was showcased at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor is expected to carry 1.2-litre K-Series engine and 1.3 litre Fiat sourced diesel engine. We also hear that Maruti's latest SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle System) technology could also make it to the YBA SUV.
Maruti's sub-4m YBA will be pinned to rival Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300 in India. Although there is still no clarity about whether the new compact SUV will be sold through Marui Nexa or the regular dealerships, rumours on the web suggest that the YBA is likely to cost between Rs 5.5 lakh and Rs 8.2 lakh.
