Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car maker, is wasting no time in cementing its top position in the domestic market. The company, which is getting ready to launch the AMT avatar of its popular sedan Swift Dzire, is reportedly also working on a new-gen Dzire model.
A Livemint report, quoting an executive at an auto component firm that received a request-for-quotation, claims that the launch of new-gen Swift Dzire has been advanced from fiscal year 2018-19 to 2017-18. The new avatar of Swift Dzire, the second best-selling car in India will be rolled out of Suzuki's upcoming plant in Gujarat.
Maruti is also rumoured to be working an all-new Swift that is expected to see the light of the day next year. According to the various reports doing the rounds on the internet, the new Swift will be based on an all-new platform, possibly the same platform as the new Baleno premium hatchback. Rumours are rife that Swift Dzire could also be riding on the same platform of new Swift which would make the car lighter by 50 to 80kgs. As of now, there is no word about the engine line-up of the new Swift Dzire and Swift; however, rumours swirling on the web indicate that Maruti could also bring in Suzuki's new diesel engines that are currently in the works.
The report also adds that the Dzire Tour is likely to get a makeover in the country with a petrol engine on-board. The current Dzire Tour in the market is offered with diesel engine under the hood.
