Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car maker, is reportedly getting ready to give a major makeover to its best-selling model Alto, in India.
The latest report of MotorOctane reveals that Maruti Suzuki is working on a new gen Alto, which would see the light of the day in 2017.
It is likely to be a substantially tweaked model of the Alto currently being sold in the international markets.
According to the report, the new gen Alto, which will be based on the Alto Kei platform, will be lighter and faster than the existing model and will be powered by a new 658cc engine.
The engine would replace the current 796cc turbo engine motor of the model and the new 658cc mill would be tuned to churn out two states of tune - 53bhp and 62bhp.
The new gen Alto is likely to be manufactured at the company's plant in Gujarat and is speculated to be priced between Rs 3 and Rs 4.5 lakh.
Other details about the new Maruti Alto are scanty at this point of time.
However, reports also suggest the new Alto 2017 will come with a design more suitable to Indian roads. The Alto 2015, which will see a major makeover under the hood, is likely to return a fuel efficiency in excess of 30kmpl. Maruti Suzuki is also likely to equip the next gen Alto with an AMT variant.
