Maruti Suzuki, India's largest passenger car maker, is reportedly working on a new sedan codenamed YL1, which could replace the current slow moving SX4 sedan.
According to Team BHP, who claimed to have got credible source, Maruti Suzuki YL1 Sedan is likely to make its debut in 2014 as a replacement of the current model SX4 sedan. The report, which also revealed the interior and exterior features of the YL1 Sedan, suggests that the design of the vehicle resembles Suzuki Authentics concept car that was shown earlier this year.
The upcoming sedan from Maruti will share platform with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV and may pack the same engine 1.3 liter Multijet diesel or 1.4 liter K Series petrol engine of Ertiga. According to the report, the YL1 sedan is also likely to borrow many features from the SX4 and the Ertiga. Apart from this, the car is likely to feature 15 inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, push button start, puddle lamps and leather seats.
The new sedan, which is expected to be an opponent of Hyundai Verna Fluidic and Volkswagen Vento, will fall in the price bracket of below 10 lakh.
Meanwhile, CarDekho citing a Financial Express report said that Maruti Suzuki India is looking forward to expand its foothold in the market by launching 2-3 new SUVs in the coming years. It was also reported that one of the SUVs from MSI's portfolio will be a crossover variant of the SX4.
"I am always asking the engineering guys to quicken their work on SUVs, it is the need of the hour. I expect to see a 3-4% jump in our market share once we roll out our SUVs. Its among the fastest growing sectors today and accounts for about 21% of car sales and we are not present there, so we are losing out," Mayank Pareek COO for Marketing & Sales told to Financial Express.
